Blasphemy Day International!

Freedom of speech includes the freedom to discuss, criticise and mock religion as much as any other topic.

Muhammad was a cult leader, active paedophile, misogynist, narcissist, mass murderer, terrorist, rapist, torturer and quite possibly insane.

Jesus, if he was indeed only one person rather than an amalgamation, was one of a number of messianic prophets/cult leaders in Judea at the time, but happened to have a better PR machine than the rest. Life of Brian is probably at least as accurate as the new testament, and definitely funnier, better written and more internally consistent.

The old testament god is described by Dawkins better than I could ever do it. 'The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.' Even if there were a shred of objective evidence for his existence, I would be ashamed to worship such a monster. At least Cthulu doesn't go around pretending to be a loving god. As for jews being god's chosen people, chosen for what, being systematically distrusted and hated throughout history? Yeah, what a great god you've got there, claiming that you have a special place in his heart and plan, then fucking you over for several thousand years. I can really see what you find appealing in that. Frankly, any god who is so petty that he makes up stupid rules like no cheeseburgers or bacon- bacon for fuck's sake, what is wrong with you?!- can fuck RIGHT off. As for cruelty, well, the whole male genital mutilation and disgustingly inhumane method of letting animals bleed to death in agony (also shared by islam, so you're not the only guilty ones there, but then again, same god) really gives me so much respect for your god, let me tell you.

Hinduism, did you think you were getting off the hook? Just because you have a more fluffy nature than the Abrahamic god doesn't make you any less ridiculous in your supernatural claims. Little girls born with 8 limbs are not goddesses, they have a dangerous birth defect that needs medical treatment. The amount of craptastic pseudo-science associated with Hindu mythology is astounding, and more astounding is how many people believe it because it's exotic sounding. And isn't it interesting how readily the abhorrent caste system fits into Hindu ideas of reincarnation?

Buddhism can get off a bit more lightly, because properly done as a philosophy and way of life it doesn't necessarily require the mysticism and supernatural nonsense that define other religions. However, as there are forms of buddhism that have silliness like reincarnation and gods, those versions can go hang with the rest of the rubbish.

As for smaller, non-mainstream religions and cults, such as crazy-ass African traditions that involve chopping up albinos or hippy ancient paganism established c. 1960, how can you even take yourselves seriously?

Well, that was a good vent for today. Jesus motherfuckin' Christ on a stick, blasphemy feels good!
